Our October Eastern Shore Teacher of the Month teaches fifth grade at Stonebridge Elementary in Loxley. Jennifer Epps relocated to Baldwin County in 2022 and has made a big impact during the few years she has been teaching locally.
“Mrs. Epps has such an impact on all her students and it amazes me,” shared Brittany Locklier, whose daughter is currently in Mrs. Epps’s class. “She helps them become more confident, overcome challenges, and just become better students all around.”
Mrs. Epps has been teaching for 14 years and has plenty of experience working with different elementary ages. As a military spouse, the family moves around quite a bit, and this gives Mrs. Epps the opportunity to make an impact on children all over the country.
“We move every three years. We typically find out in March where we are moving in June. It keeps life very exciting. It is rewarding to have the opportunity to experience so many different places. I am able to take the things I love about a school with me to implement in my new location. It truly has helped mold me into the educator I am today,” shared Mrs. Epps. “We don’t have a lot of family around us, as a military family, so my students become my family!”
When she was in third and fourth grade, Mrs. Epps knew she wanted to become a teacher. That desire carried her to earning her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She is extremely passionate about pouring into children’s lives, just like her former teacher, Mrs. Richardson, poured into hers.
“My goal as an educator is to help my students recognize their potential and value in the world, whether that be academically or personally,” she explained. “I also try to sprinkle in fun wherever I can! Anytime you can learn without feeling like you’re learning, is motivating and rewarding.”
