Fairhope High Cheerleaders Win Big at Masters Camp

Fairhope Varsity and JV cheerleaders attended Masters Camp at the University of Alabama recently. Masters Camps are invitation only and for competitive and performance teams, and focus on skills training to prepare squads for competition season.
JV was awarded “Best Performance Overall for Camp Dance” and Varsity was awarded “Most Difficult Routine for Camp Dance.” Both of these awards are high honors and very impressive especially at a Masters Camp. We are very proud of these girls.
Our cheerleaders were also awarded the coveted UCA “Top Banana” award! It is given to the program that demonstrates exceptional spirit, leadership, and enthusiasm. It’s a large, inflatable banana, symbolizing the team’s overall positive impact and dedication throughout camp. Each year, this Top Award is given to only one team/program (we were competing with 29 teams/600+ girls), it is voted on by UCA staff, and it’s based on staff observation during the entirety of camp. This is a huge honor! There were also 10 Pin-It-Forward recipients and Luci LeCroy finished in the top three of the JV jump off competition! Fairhope’s first Masters Camp was a huge success. Go Pirates!

Jameson Peak Earns Eagle Scout

Bay Minette’s Jameson Peak earns Eagle Scout Rank- Jameson Peak, a 2025 graduate of Baldwin County High School, has earned the prestigious Eagle Scout Rank – Scouting America’s highest honor. Jameson is the son of Chuck and Sandi Peak of Bay Minette and is a member of Troop 82 from Daphne. In addition to Scouting, Jameson played the tuba in the marching band for one year at Daphne High and three at BCHS. He was also a delegate to Alabama Boys State in 2024.
For his Eagle Scout project, Jameson organized a volunteer effort to provide five benches along the walking trail in Daphne’s Central Park. This park is special since Jameson and his brother spent countless hours assisting with the Native Plant Trail program in the park, planting and maintaining 50 trees and shrubs for the past year and a half. A volunteer team of more than 20 individuals showed up to assist him for the successful completion of the Eagle project last month.
Jameson began his scouting journey with Pack 76 in Bay Minette in 2012 before crossing over in the Spring of 2017. His favorite scout activity has always been camping, and he points to his experience earning a welding merit badge for influencing his career choice. In the fall, Jameson will begin a program at Coastal Alabama Community College where he will explore the fields of machine technology and welding on the Atmore campus.
Because of his experience with scouting, he plans to continue his involvement by becoming a volunteer leader.

Elberta High NJROTC Season Comes to a Close

The RHS/EHS NJROTC Air Rifle season has come to an incredible close, and what a journey it has been! Competing across Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Ohio, our team shattered records and earned national respect in just its third year with a Precision class squad.
Here’s a quick look at our national finishes:
7th – Secretary of the Navy Postal Match
2nd – Gary Anderson Invitational (just one point away from 1st!)
4th – Navy JROTC National Championship (out of 600 units!)
14th – All-Service JROTC Nationals (out of 3,500 units!)
4th – Civilian Marksmanship Program Nationals (school record set!)
1st – Alabama State Championship (2nd year in a row!)
3 team members qualified for the USA Shooting Junior Olympics!
But no summary of our season would be complete without honoring Cadet Haley Wheeles — a once-in-a-generation talent. Over four years, she:
– Led her team to multiple national top-10 finishes
– Qualified for USA Shooting Junior Olympics – twice
– Earned the Distinguished Shooter Badge (first in program history!)
– Ranked #1 female Orienteer in our four-state region
– Worked part-time
– Served as FFA Vice-President
– Attended NJROTC leadership academies as both trainee and trainer
– Excelled as a varsity athlete in multiple sports
– Logged hundreds of hours in community service
– Commanded 150 cadets as the senior cadet of our battalion
Cadet Wheeles may have graduated, but her legacy will continue to inspire future cadets. She’s not only one of the most decorated athletes in Elberta High history — she may be one of the most accomplished in Baldwin County.
