Every month we compile a list of students and schools doing great things across our community.  We have so many talented students in our area.  Greater Pensacola Parents joins with these families and schools to celebrate their achievements!

Trinitas Christian School Strawberry Farm Trip

Trinitas high school juniors and seniors accompanied their kindergarten buddies on their annual strawberry picking trip. Students enjoyed picking fresh, ripe berries at Brooks Family Farm in Baker, Florida. This trip is an enhancement to the kindergartener’s study of the life cycle of the strawberry, as well as an opportunity to bond with their upper school buddies. Berry tasting and playing made for a very happy day!

Success Academy Holds Career Fair

Success Academy held its first Career Fair on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Armed with resumes and dressed for success, about 150 students took time to visit each booth to learn about the multitude of opportunities available. Representatives from Pensacola State College, University of West Florida, and University of Florida were on hand to discuss their application process, scholarships, and programs offered at their institutions. Staff from George Stone and Locklin Technical Colleges were also present to inform the students about their varied disciplines. Military recruiters from the Navy, Army, and Marine Corps were in attendance, as well.

Montessori School of Pensacola Middle School Service Trip

MSP 7th and 8th grade students visited Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Information about Ferncliff:

Three-part Mission: practice and promote/teach care of self, care of others, care of environment

Care of self – wilderness preschool, challenge by choice activities, opportunities for reflection

Care of others – Disaster Assistance Center (DAC): accept donations and assemble items for refugees and those recovering from disasters

Good 360 Community Distribution Center: receives product donations from companies (overstock, returns, canceled items) and redistributes to churches and non-profits at huge discounts, helps keep new items from going into landfills

Care of environment – sustainable building and gardening practices, use green energy sources

Students worked on group problem-solving challenges, rock climbed, made disaster relief kits, worked in the gardens, and more.  Students had this to share about their experiences:

“I enjoyed the trip due to how beautiful the facilities were, the setting, and the ability to be able to take walks in the woods.  I also enjoyed the community service at the garden of reuse, learning about how many products large corporations throw out, which countries have the largest population and why, and working at the disaster relief center to help people immigrating to the U.S., and those who have recently lived in an area affected by natural disasters.”

“I enjoyed Ferncliff because of the positive, creative, educational, and green experiences.  I liked the form, rock climbing, DAC, and the food.  I also thought Ferncliff brought the Middle Schoolers together more as a whole and we trust each other more.  Ferncliff also taught me about the Earth and how to protect it, which is really important.”

“I love that Ferncliff has a preschool that is completely devoted to nature.  It’s also very beautiful there.”

“During the trip, I had an exciting and interesting experience.  The time when we made hygiene was different than anything I had done before.”

On Monday, May 2, Cox Communications hosted the annual Cox Inspirational Student Hero Awards in Escambia County, recognizing 53 students who have overcome extreme hardships in their lives. The Heroes were recognized at a ceremony at the University of West Florida. This is the first Heroes event that was held in person at UWF since the beginning of the pandemic. MSP Gala Event Returns

Montessori School of Pensacola families and staff were thrilled to see the return of their Gala fundraiser after two years without it due to COVID.  This Gala was an opportunity for the school community to be together again and also to celebrate the school’s 45th anniversary.  This year’s event took place at Scenic Hills Country Club and featured local chefs in a “Chef Walk” format for the evening.  Chefs that were featured were:  Keith Pardue with Elevated Entrees Culinary Services, Melissa Coates with Boarders, Adrianna Zeballos and Catia Frias with A&C Catering, Aleathia Clark with Who’s Cooking Private Chef Co., and Jesse Sproles with Scenic Hills Country Club.  It also featured music by Fred Domulot, local musician and MSP music teacher and student band leader.

Started in 2008, in honor of the school’s 30th anniversary, Gala has become the PTO’s biggest fundraiser. There is a silent auction with items ranging from massages to condo rentals.  Each classroom creates collaborative art pieces to be auctioned off.   Families love bidding on these keepsake artworks made by their children (Toddler class through Middle School).  This adult-only evening event is a great chance for parents to socialize and to raise funds for the Montessori School of Pensacola Parent teacher organization.

CLA 2022 Dragon Jubilee was a Huge Success!

Creative Learning Academy was finally able to host our annual Live Auction Dragon Jubilee in person after a two-year hiatus. We were bound and determined to host an epic party to make up for lost time, and our mission was a success! The Dragon Jubilee is our school’s largest fundraising initiative for the spring season. All proceeds from this event are part of an indispensable, community-wide investment in CLA students. The live and online auction components of the Dragon Jubilee play an invaluable role in providing opportunities outside the regular operating budget in the areas of academics, arts, technology and facilities.

There were many highlights from this year’s event. Bayview Community Center was the perfect venue for a beautiful Spring evening. Live music, played by Pensacola’s very own DLP, was amazing. Scrumptious food was provided by Nancy’s Catering and Events, Olive to Nosh and Miko’s Sweet Eats and Treats. There were over 150 items donated to the online and live auctions from local businesses, artists, restaurants, realtors, and performers. Our event sponsors, who were so gracious in supporting the Jubilee this year, were Nancy’s, Agapi Bistro and Garden, Clarity Tax Solutions, The Kreis Family, Powell Entertainment, Lara J Audelo LLC Realtor, The Lewis Bear Company, LeBeau Clinic, Amy Timko Century 21; Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis and Overholtz; Air and Energy of NWFL, The Wallace Company, The Marshall Family, Olive to Nosh, Miko’s Sweet Eats and Treats, Evergreen Printing; Doctors, Lawyers, Politicians; Advancement Connections, The Daza Family, The Perez family, and Zaxby’s.

A very special thank you goes out to all the community members and patrons of CLA who supported and participated in the online auction remotely, and to those who purchased tickets, sponsored our teachers, attended and participated in the live auction and paddle raise at this year’s Jubilee. Volunteers that helped planning and preparing for the Jubilee were essential to the event’s success and are too numerous to list. We could not be happier with the turnout at this year’s event. We are thrilled with the fundraising efforts of our community members and guests who attended Dragon Jubilee and we cannot wait to host this event next year, which will coincide with CLA’s celebration of our 50th anniversary.

Elementary Art at East Hill Christian

Over these past two months, our little artists have stayed busy traveling to Spain and Australia to learn about Pablo Picasso and Pete Cromer. Picasso has inspired us to make fun paper and clay sculptures, and Cromer has taught us to make colorful collages of wild animals, like crocodiles. We always have the best time turning messes into masterpieces. We are headed to Italy for our last stop. Can you guess who we will be meeting?!

Warrington and Bellview Middle Schools Participate in Music Festival

On Friday April 29th, students from Warrington and Bellview Middle Schools traveled to Panama city to participate in the Panama City Beach Music Festival, held at Arnold High School. Our students won Superior Ratings and Best in Class! To prepare for this endeavor, the groups have been collaborating with Saturday rehearsals in March and April. The directors, students, and parents have shown great dedication and determination in producing a phenomenal performance, which was rewarded with the trophies won at the festival. The students were also able to have a blast at Dave and Busters while on the trip. So proud of our Middle School band students!

This was the first year that CHS competed in this regional competition and won in the Ranger Division.  The team has earned an invitation to the MATE International competition that will be held in Long Beach, CA in June.  Congratulations to the team and Mrs. Dana Lupton, Science Teacher and Moderator of the Crubotics Team! CHS Student Council Hosts Final ‘Crazy Competition’

Every year the Pensacola Catholic High School Student Council hosts a variety of student competitions on campus where members of the four classes go against each other in friendly athletic events for “the win” and bragging rights. In October, the Juniors, Class of 2023, won the Crazy Crusader Kickball Challenge that was held on the Lady Crusaders Softball field. On February 23, the Conquer the Court competition was held pitting class teams against each other on the volleyball court – the Seniors, Class of 2022, walked away victorious. And on April 20, the Ultimate Frisbee Faceoff was held on the Crusader football field at Gorecki-LaBeau Stadium. The Sophomores, Class of 2024, took the win and bragging rights for this final competition. It looks like our Crusaders were evenly matched this year! Thank you to Julie Remke, English Teacher and Student Council Moderator, and all of the teachers who help officiate these great competitions! Pensacola Catholic High School Girls Lacrosse Team – District Champs

The Girls Lacrosse Team of Catholic High School won the District Championship for the first time in CHS history!  The youngest sport on campus, in only its 6 th season, they have progressed over the years to be great contenders on the field. This year’s team also won their Regional Quarterfinal game advancing them to compete in the Regional Semifinal game in St. Augustine where they lost in a highly competitive game.  The Lady Crusaders were coached by Chloe Weinman who was assisted by Jenn Buer and Leigh Frosch.  They ended the season with an overall record of 16-5 — Congratulations to the Lady Crusaders on their best season EVER!

Blue Wahoos Honor Teachers of the Year

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos honored all of ECSD’s Teachers of the Year with a pre-game, on-field ceremony. Our Teachers of the Year were paraded in from the outfield, and A.K. Suter Teacher of the Year, Alison Link, threw out the first pitch! After that, The Escambians, the choral ensemble from Escambia High School, opened the game with a stirring rendition of our National Anthem.

Booker T. Washington Student Rewarded by Superintendent

Booker T. Washington High School senior Emma Booth, and her art teacher, Sarah Kelly, stopped by the Superintendent’s office to claim her reward for winning Superintendent’s Choice from the ECSD Student Art Show. Fine Art Specialist Angela Barberi accompanied them as Emma explained her process and inspiration and picked up a check for $100.  Her work will hang in the Superintendent’s office for the next year.

Celebrating Leadership at East Hill Christian

Students from Student Government Association and Student Leadership Institute were treated to a delicious luncheon in their honor. Guest speaker, Jeremy Ruffin, spoke about what it means to be a leader: Love, Empathy, Accountability, Determination/Discipline, Energy, Respect, and Service. Awards were given to those showing outstanding leadership qualities this school year.

MSP Students Visit Their New Classroom

Lower Elementary students finish their 3-year cycle in a classroom and move into the Montessori School of Pensacola Upper Elementary class for the next 3-years.  In preparation for this “moving up”, as MSP calls it, the 3rd year students spent the day with the Upper Elementary class.  Students got to see what life in Upper Elementary is like and received lessons from the Upper El teachers.  MSP spends time at the end of each school year providing opportunities for these visits between all of the classrooms, as students will be transitioning to the next 3-year cycle.

Montessori philosophy stresses the importance of a three-year cycle, believing that the full potential of the child is reached after three years in the same environment with the same teacher. Montessori schools use multi-age groupings (three-to-six year olds, six-to-nine year olds, etc.) and teachers are trained to meet the specific cognitive, social, and emotional needs of the children in their age group.
