“I think, as moms, ‘what’s for dinner’ is a truly underrated stress. It makes me think of that saying ‘who knew the hardest part about being a mom would be figuring out what to cook for dinner, every day, for the rest of your life,’” shared Stephanie Hanway. “I tend to joke about it, but it really can feel like a full time job!”
Stephanie and her husband Tyler have been married for 10 years, celebrating their wedding anniversary this month! The couple and their boys, Lincoln (7) and Nash (4), love living in Old Town Daphne and spending time together outside.
“We have a love for all things water, including swimming, fishing and getting out on our 1970 Stauter Built boat,” Stephanie said. “Our boys are their happiest when on the bay armed with sticks, rocks and a fishing net in their hands!”
The Hanway boys not only love being on the water, but also in it! Over the summer both Lincoln and Nash participated in the Lake Forrest Swim Team. They enjoyed it so much that they are now part of the City of Mobile’s Swim Association so they can swim year round.
Stephanie loves being a wife and a mother, and also a small business owner. She owns not one, but two small businesses here in the area.
“I pretty much love everything about being a small business owner,” exclaimed Stephanie. “I’ve always been an ideas person and I like seeing an idea come to life! Southern Heirloom Portraits and Oh Hey Mama are both my babies that I have grown from nothing…but an idea.”
Stephanie has been a photographer for over 10 years, and while she has done photo shoots for a little bit of everything, heirloom portraits are her favorite and now her sole focus. She and her photography partner, Lindsay Killen, plan pop-up heirloom portrait events all over the country!
“Oh Hey Mama was started in 2020 with another simple idea — hair care for postpartum moms,” Stephanie shared. “From there, it grew to a whole scalp care line made for hormonal and aging hair types. It’s been fun to watch products that I have made get in the hands (and hair) of people all across the country!”
Despite juggling multiple titles, Stephanie loves when her family sits down together for dinner and likes to keep it simple and family style! They also like to eat outside on their back deck during this time of year, when the weather is finally cooling down.
“Whatever meal we make, keeping it deconstructed helps us all enjoy the same meal while still allowing the kids to control what goes on their plate,” shared Stephanie. “These nachos are a great example of this, but we pretty much keep that concept with all our meals, keeping the customization option available.”
Family Style Nachos
Ingredients:
- Tortilla chips
- Shredded cheese (your choice)
- Pulled pork or ground beef (cooked)
- Guacamole
- Sour cream (the squeeze kind is super convenient)
- Pinto beans
- Tomatoes (diced)
Optional toppings: jalapeños, olives, pineapple chunks or whatever you have on hand!
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Arrange a layer of tortilla chips on an oven-safe platter or baking sheet.
- Generously sprinkle shredded cheese over the chips.
- Add your choice of protein (pulled pork or ground beef) evenly on top of the cheese.
- Bake in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbling — typically 10-15 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and add dollops of guacamole, squeeze sour cream, spoon pinto beans and scatter diced tomatoes on top.
- Serve family-style, allowing everyone to create their own loaded nachos! Enjoy!
