Happy New Year! As we take down our old calendars and “pack away” the events of 2009, there something is very refreshing about starting a new year. Not that our lives magically transform at the stroke of midnight, but is does bring opportunity to evaluate our lives and encourage improvement for the new year. I believe the most popular resolution must be to lose weight and get in shape. Now that I am older (and hopefully wiser) this resolution is less about my physical appearance and more about my health and energy. I would like to set a good example for my children and make exercise a regular part of the family schedule, be it a bike ride or just a walk after dinner. Even more important is something I started a couple months ago.I am intentionally scheduling quiet time for myself each morning. Not that I am trying to avoid the dishes or Mt. St. Laundry, but I have become more aware that having this time allows me to start each day putting my focus where it needs to be instead of on the chores of the day. I can say that this exercise has been very rewarding. Before anyone wakes, when the sun is just barely peeking out, I take my quiet time. Whatever worries, questions or requests I might have, I hand them over each morning. What a great peace it brings. If you have a child who will be enrolling in preschool, daycare or a mother’s morning out program you are probably aware that many of the programs in our area begin registration in January. Enrolling your child in a program can make Mother very nervous, especially if it is the first time. There are so many factors to consider. To help you sort out the many questions you may have, we’ve included “Defining Quality Childcare,” by Jeanne Sellers. While you do need to consider the facts, it is also important to listen to your instincts. As moms, we all tend to have that “gut” feeling about things and usually we are right. To also assist you with your search we have included an extensive listing of childcare service providers on the So as we begin a new year, let’s all take a big deep breath, shake off the dust from 2009 and start 2010 with great excitement! |
