I don’t know about you, but I have had enough rain and cold! Don’t get me wrong, snow in Baldwin County is wonderful, but the other day I walked outside to a sunny, almost 70 degree day and I immediately caught spring fever. I can’t wait for the day when I can open all the windows, plant some new flowers and enjoy the outdoors. Spring just makes you feel refreshed and rejuvenated. It is also the season of one of my favorite holidays--Easter.

Going away to camp is an invaluable opportunity for all kids. The camp experience can provide your child a chance to meet other kids from diverse backgrounds and opportunities to learn team work. It also can be an environment for independence and a load of fun-filled memories. So how can you prepare your child for fun and success at camp? |

Question: My wife and I bought some furniture a while back on what we thought was a 24-months-same-as-cash plan. The original purchase price was $1,600. The other day, I got a call from a collector saying that it was actually a 12-month plan, and the balance is now $2,800. We looked at the contract, and it was our mistake on the length of the plan. Still, that makes the interest rate about 30 percent. Is there anything we can do about this? |

Easter is fast approaching, and I have to admit, I haven’t been feeling very enthusiastic. Now that my children are ages 10 and 13, maybe I’ve been doing this Easter gig just a little too long, and frankly, I’ve been getting a little bored. This year I thought we might liven up our Easter celebration a bit. After all, Easter comes along with the first days of spring, promising warmth and new life. Why not shake off our winter doldrums and do something a little creative to welcome in the season? |

Since this has been such a cold and seemingly long winter, I’m sure that spring is on all our minds this March. Let’s get into the spirit of spring by “planting” a few crafts. Flowers, birds and bugs are all signs that spring is on its way. Use some of these ideas to help get you started on decorating your own flower pot.

Question: My 8-year-old son is a poor sport. He’s been asked to leave several sports programs because of rudeness to other players and disrespect to adults, but he doesn’t seem to care. I think he’s just not as sports-minded as his dad wants him to be. His teachers report that he is a bad sport if he can’t be first to do whatever the class is doing. When other children make mistakes in class, he makes fun of them. What can we do to shape him up before he becomes the most un-liked kid around? |
